Rachel Upthegrove, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Psychiatrist in the Birmingham Early Intervention Services has been recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours.

Her ground-breaking research focuses on developing new treatments in the early stages of psychosis, including schizophrenia and depression, with a special emphasis on inflammatory biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets. As the leader of the NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC), Professor Upthegrove is at the forefront of the Government’s £42M Mental Health Mission, aimed at addressing unmet mental health needs. She is set to take up the role of Director Designate of the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre and Oxford University in August 2024.
